In the movie, the Communists used an agent named SHAW who was a guiltless assassin subconsciously activated by seeing the “Queen of Diamonds” playing card while playing solitaire. Who obeyed the Communist's orders and then forgets. He was being used to overthrow the U.S. government,by a puppet dictator.
